TOPSHAM — A Topsham man died Monday when his car drifted off Interstate 295 near the Bowdoin town line and crashed into a tree, Maine State Police said.
Two passing motorists stopped around 2:30 p.m. and pulled Edwin Hull, 65, from his wrecked Ford F-150 pickup truck just before it burst into flames, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said in a statement.
Hull was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he died shortly after arrival. State police believe Hull may have suffered a medical issue while driving, McCausland said.
State Police and Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Department officers investigated the crash, which slowed traffic for about two hours.
