The Lewiston Maineiacs are, one week after flirting with the honor, back in the BMO CHL Top 10 for the first time in more than three years.

The Maineiacs cracked the poll in the No. 10 position, the fourth Quebec Major Junior Hockey League team on the 10-team list.

Ahead of Lewiston, from the QMJHL, are No. 2 Saint John, No. 4 Quebec and No. 6 Montreal. Tops overall are the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors of the OHL, who are 22-2-0-1 overall.

The weekly rankings of the Canadian Hockey League’s top 10 teams are selected by a panel of National Hockey League scouts.

Metcalfe suspended

The QMJHL suspended Cape Breton defender Spender Metcalfe on Wednesday for two games following his penalty Tuesday against the Maineiacs. Officials assessed the penalty, a code 4.96, for “racial taunts, gestures and slurs.”

According to the QMJHL, the suspension is for “inappropriate comments which were directed towards Olivier Dame-Malka in the heat of the moment during (Tuesday) night’s game.”

In addition, the Screaming Eagles have been fined $500, and metcalfe must contact Dame-Malka to apologize.

“The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League created an antidiscrimination policy in December of 2006 in order to ban all forms of discrimination,” Commissioner Gilles Courteau said in a news release. “Our policy is based on the principle of zero tolerance, and it applies to all comments which are deemed inappropriate. All of our participants must be treated with respect and dignity.”
