A group of area residents gather around a wood fire in the park on Court Street across from Auburn City Building on Tuesday, holding signs and candles in the rain, during a vigil to bring awareness to the plight of the homeless. The vigil organized by the Lewiston-Auburn Alliance for Service to the Homeless was part of a national event traditionally held on the winter solstice. Bob Rowe, one of the organizers from New Beginnings, said the vigil is a memorial for those who have died homeless and to raise awareness for those who also don’t have a place to live.
