LEWISTON — The Center for Wisdom’s Women has received a $5,000 grant from the Maine Charity Foundation Fund of the Maine Community Foundation.

This is the second Maine Charity Foundation Fund grant received by the Center from MCF, the first being in 2008 for start-up funds. Those first two years were dedicated to re-opening the center and building a secure financial base.

The new grant has been awarded for the purpose of supporting an outreach work for the center. Pat Gardiner, volunteer companion at the center, will be the new outreach worker. By hiring her, the center plans to be present on the street in a more consistent way, with the focus on reaching out to younger and immigrant women.

Klara Tammany, center executive director, said, “The Maine Community Foundation has been an important partner in building our capacity. We are grateful for their ongoing confidence and support as we continue to expand our work with women in the community.”

The Maine Community Foundation serves people who share a common mission: improving the quality of life in our state. For more information, see www.mainecf.org.
