AUBURN — Pack Life has collected more than 1,100 pounds of cat and dog food for Maine’s hungry pets. The food, as well as miscellaneous supplies, has been collected at 20 drop box locations throughout Central Maine.

Businesses collected food throughout October, hunger awareness month. “The support from the local businesses and the community was remarkable and we simply couldn’t have done it without them and their patrons” said Pack Life co-founder Cassandra Lang.

Pack Life started in 2009 to help reduce the number of dogs being killed in U.S. shelters. One way they are accomplishing this goal is by home retention, making sure that the pet owners of Maine are able to feed their pets and keep them in their homes.

The food and supplies will be delivered to local food pantries to be distributed to the public over the coming months. Pack Life will also maintain an ongoing supply for families in need and rescue dogs that are in foster care through the Maine-based rescue organization.
