DIXFIELD — Winthrop outscored Dirigo 12-5 in the fourth quarter, hitting key free throws down the stretch to edge the Cougars 38-32 in a girls’ MVC basketball clash.

Dirigo led 24-16 at halftime, but could not handle the Winthrop press in the second half. The Ramblers (2-3) used a 10-3 run 3rd quarter to cut the deficit to one heading into the final frame.

Guard Nikki Scott scored a team high 11 points, including seven free throws for Winthrop. Seniors Kelsey Nason and Sarah Warner added 10 and eight points, respectively in the win.

Senior guard Hannah Knight paced Dirigo with a dozen points including a pair of 3-pointers. Junior Alyssa Wade chipped in with nine points in the loss.

Leavitt 94, Rockland 41

ROCKLAND — Adrianna Newton led a group of four players in double figures as Leavitt raced away to a 94-41 rout over Rockland in a KVAC girls’ basketball tilt.

Newton fniished with 25 points and eight rebounds for the undefeated Hornets (6-0), while the sister act of Courtney (18) and Kristen (17) Anderson combined for 35 points. Abbey Randall also contributed with 12 points and six assists.

The winless Tigers (0-6) were paced by Hannah Plourde with a solid 15-point effort, while Brooke Dugan chipped in with eight points.

Girls’ hockey

EL/Leavitt 3, Winslow 1

AUBURN — The Edward Little/Leavitt girls’ hockey squad rallied for three goals in the third period Wednesday to post a 3-1 victory over Winslow in a KVAC matchup.

Sabrina Lapoine, Holly Gallup and Taylor Landry all tallied goals for the Red Hornets, while Kayla Royer, Shaylin Collins and Torimae Couture were all credited with assists. Brianna Stanley made 20 saves to notch the win.

Winslow received their lone goal from Paige Thomas in the second period, with assists from Britnay Whitaker and Jennifer Poulin. Jessica Cain turned aside 14 shots between the pipes for Winslow.

Brunswick 9, St. Dom’s 1

LEWISTON — Brunswick picked up a bundle of Heal Points with a 9-1 trouncing of previously unbeaten St. Dom’s in girls’ hockey action.

The Dragons (3-5-1) outshot the Saints (7-1), 52-2.
