Unless other arrangements are indicated, all classes will take place at Oak Hill High School.
General Educational Development: Classes will be offered from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Preparation classes will be offered to refresh skills in science, social studies, reading, mathematics, grammar and writing.
An adult high school diploma is available for adults who wish to earn credits through a combination of classes and home study. Credits earned through adult education are added to those earned in high school. Credits may be awarded for military service, work and volunteer services. Classes are ongoing, from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
An after-school program for children is also available in Litchfield and Sabattus. Both sites offer enrichment activities and field trips. Contact Flo Poulin for more information at 375-6605.
Oak Hill Adult Education will offer personal financial planning classes free; however donations may be made to Oak Hill Adult Education: From 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, “Income/Spending and Credit”; Tuesday, Jan. 18, “Savings/Investing and Purchasing a Car”; Tuesday, Jan. 25, “Employee 401K and Financial Planning for a Child’s Education.” Lisa Laliberte from State Farm Insurance will be the instructor. Space is limited.
Basic/Beginner Line Dancing: Classes will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 18 and 25, Feb. 1, 8 and 15, March 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29. The cost is $40 a person.
Driver Education: The course is required by state law for anyone under age 17 to get a driving permit. It consists of 30 classroom hours and 10 driving hours. Each class will run three weeks and one day. Classes will meet from 3 to 6 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Dates are Jan. 13, Feb. 28, March 28, April 25, May 31 and June 2. Substitute Teaching: The free workshop will provide participants with basic skills in classroom behavior management and classroom strategies and activities. Workshops are available from 3 to 5 p.m. and those interested should call for an appointment.
Instructor Training: Oak Hill Adult Education invites anyone who has a skill or hobby to share with others to join the staff. The training will help participants learn how to teach others and share information in a classroom setting. The training is free. Class will meet from 6 to 7 p.m., with dates to be announced.
Medical Terminology: The 10-week class is for those who plan to enter the medical field and need help learning medical terms, definitions and pronunciations. Call for more information. It is an independent study and ongoing class. Cost is $145 and includes cost of book.
Zumba: One-hour of high impact Latin-infused aerobic workout for those of any age or fitness level. Kelli Gilzow will instruct. Class will meet from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays. Drop-in rate is $8 and the eight-week class is $40. Start date will be in February.
CPR-First Aid: Ben McKenney, American Red Cross, will instruct. Red Cross Preparedness programs in first aid, CPR and AED are available for any age and can be tailored to the needs of specific groups and individuals. Program will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, at SPRQ’S Studios on Highland Spring Ave., Lewiston. Cost is $50. For more information or to register, call Kelli at 754-9411.
Introduction to Computers for Senior Citizens: Participants will learn the basics, and Roger Bouley will instruct. Classes will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, Jan. 20 through March 3. Cost is $40/$45 NR.
Intro to Microsoft Excel Workshop: The workshop will teach how to maneuver through Excel. Instructor TBA. Classes will meet from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Feb. 2 through 16. Cost is $25/$30 NR.
Beacon Hospice Volunteer Training: Instructor, Kyla Greenwood; from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays for seven weeks; free/donations to Oak Hill Adult Education.
Firearms Hunter Safety: Starts in March, date TBA, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife hunter basic mandatory course consists of classroom instruction according to statewide standards. Two classes will be held at school, homework and study will be required as well as an off-site fire arms handling.
