Class postponed

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Senior Citizens cooking class, originally scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 12, has been postponed until Wednesday, Jan. 26.

The class, to be presented by Denise Dill, will allow participants to prepare a variety of soups and stews to sample. Lewiston Senior Citizen members can take the class for $3; nonmembers may participate for $5 each.

DivorceCare

AUBURN — “DivorceCare for Kids,” a 13-week program for children ages 5 to 12 of families experiencing divorce and separation, will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. beginning, Tuesday, Jan. 11, at East Auburn Baptist Church, 560 Park Ave.

DC4K features games and activities, along with DVD dramas about real-life situations of children in divorce. Topics include learning about what is happening to the family, dealing with emotions and loneliness, talking to parents and siblings and moving on.

For more information, call 782-0348. Preregistration is suggested. Parents can attend the DivorceCare program for adults and study the same topics as the children at the same time.

Pine Cone Chapter

AUBURN — Pine Cone Chapter 26, Order of the Eastern Star, will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, at the Masonic Hall, 1021 Turner St.

The members will renew the obligation and landmarks will be read. Women officers will wear white gowns and men, dark suits.

The meeting will be preceded by a potluck supper at 6:15 Pine Cone has the travel emblem, “Mustang Sally.” All Eastern Star members are welcome.

Grange night

AUBURN — Members of Danville Junction Grange will meet at the hall at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, for instruction night, provided by Maine State Grange Deputy Ethel LaCourse. A program will be presented by the lecturer. Refreshments will be served at the close of the meeting. All members and guests are invited.

Dinner meeting

LEWISTON — Twin City Council 160, United Commercial Travelers of America, will hold a dinner meeting at 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, at Davinci’s Restaurant. Reservations should be made prior to the meeting by calling Senior Counselor Cindy Larrabee at 345-9533. All members and guests are invited.

Library donation

MECHANIC FALLS — The Mechanic Falls Library has announced that the family of Dorothy Abbott, 93, who died on Dec. 13, 2010, has donated a video magnifier, which can be used to enlarge print for people with macular degeneration, retina pigmentosa and other vision conditions.

Donna Cobb and Robert Abbott wanted to help others in the surrounding area by donating the viewer for use when the Mechanic Falls Library is open. For more information about the viewer and the library hours, call 345-9450.

Cribbage play

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Senior Citizens Cribbage League winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on Jan. 6 were: first, Shirley Labonte and John Violette; second, Dick Dennis and Gary David; third, Aaron Burke and Bill Mickalide; fourth, Hope Hughes and Roger Briggs; fifth: Val Asselin, two-player table.
