LIVERMORE FALLS — Livermore Falls’ defense came up big, including shutting the Cobras out in the fourth quarter for a 46-28 triumph in an MVC girls’ basketball clash Monday.
The Andies opened the game with a 13-7 lead after one period and continued their lead with a 26-17 halftime advantage. They edged Carrebec (3-6) 13-11 in the third quarter, before shutting them out 7-0 in the final frame to seal the victory.
Senior Marissa Welch led all scorers with 17 points. The Andies center also hauled down 12 rebounds in the victory.
Kathyrn Ventrella chipped in with a dozen points, including a pair of 3-pointers. The junior guard also had six assists. Megan Therrien added nine points for the Andies (8-1).
Marissa Murray led Carrebec with nine points, followed by seven points from Kara Hebert.
St. Dom’s 50, Monmouth 38
AUBURN — St. Dom’s outscored Monmouth in each of the first three quarters and held off the Mustangs late for a 50-38 victory in MVC girls’ basketball.
Holding Monmouth to nine first-half points, the Saints outscored their opponents 12-7 in the third period for a 34-16 advantage. Monmouth more than doubled its total output with 22 fourth-quarter points, but it wasn’t enough.
St. Dom’s (6-3) Allaina Murphy led all scorers with 17 points, while teammate McKenzie Roy chipped in with 13 points. Kristine Kahl paced Monmouth (3-6) with 12 points and seven rebounds.
Mountain Valley 78, Telstar 23
RUMFORD — Mountain Valley charged out to a commanding 31-6 lead after the opening quarter en route to a 78-23 victory over Telstar in a girls’ clash.
Ten different players hit the scoring column for the Falcons, who improves to 6-3 on the season. Junior Ayla Allen led all scorers with 19 points and sophomore forward Brooke Dolloff added 14 points in the win. Makayla White chipped in with 11 points including a 3-point basket.
Emma Davis led the Rebels (0-9) with nine points, all from behind the arc.
Madison 50, Mt. Abram 44
SALEM — Trailing by two points at halftime, Madison outscored Mt. Abram’s 29-21 in the second half for a 50-44 victory.
Trailing by eight points after one quarter, the Roadrunners used an 18-8 second quarter to take the two-point halftime edge. The Bulldogs outscored Mt. Abram (3-6) 14-9 in the third to recapture the lead for good.
Madison’s (5-4) Lindsay Weese registered a team high 14 points, while Christine Wood added 10 points in the win. Sophomore Miranda Smith led all scorers with 25 points for Mt. Abram.
Georges Valley 58, Lisbon 34
LISBON — Georges Valley used a 24-point third quarter to pull away from Lisbon en route to a 58-34 victory.
Leading 28-14 at the half, the Buccanneers (5-4) outscored the Greyhounds 24-8 to seal the victory. Kennedi Grover dumped in a game-high 15 points and hauled down six rebounds. Jill Bradbury also added 13 points in the victory. Alexa Harmon paced Lisbon (3-6) with13 points.
Edward Little 48, Brunswick 38
AUBURN — Frankie Lally sank 8-of-9 free throw attempts in the final quarter to enable Edward Little to hold off Brunswick for a 48-38 triumph in a KVAC girls’ basketball game Monday.
Edward Little used a 15-5 spurt in the second quarter to open up a 10-point advantage at the half.
Ashlee Arnold led the Red Eddies (7-1) with 20 points, including four 3-pointers, while Lally finished with 11 points.
Lydia Caputi scored 10 points to pace the Dragons (6-3).
Hebron 41, Kents Hill 22
HEBRON — Seniors Malorie Johnson and Janelle Bradish combined for 35 points as Hebron Academy downed Kents Hill 41-22 in girls’ basketball action.
Johnson finished with a game high 18 points including a pair of 3-point baskets. Kaitlyn Paiton and Mar Barolome rounded out the scoring for Hebron with four and two points respectively. Brittany Sharpe paced Kents Hill with 13 points.
Hall-Dale 39, Winthrop 37
WINTHROP — Unbeaten Hall-Dale hit a pair of free throws in the final minute to break a tie and escape Winthrop with a 39-37 triumph in an MVC girls’ basketball game Monday.
Trailing by one at halftime, the Ramblers (4-5) surged ahead in the back-and-forth game to take a 31-28 advantage into the final quarter.
After Hall-Dale (9-0) broke the 37-37 tie with the two free throws, Winthrop had a couple of chances to tie or win the game,but could not convert a field goal nor a 3-pointer in the final seconds.
Carylanne Wolfinger led Hll-Dale with 12 points. Nikki Scott scored a game-high 13 points for Winthrop.
Boys’ hockey
Edward Little 4, Cony 1
HALLOWELL — Senior forward Dylan Nadeau netted a pair of goals and an assist to help lead Edward Little to a 4-1 victory over Cony in Class A hockey action Monday.
Nadeau opened the scoring in the first period on an assist from Brendon Pelletier and Travis Landry to give the Eddies the early lead. Cony answered less than a minute later, tying the score with a goal by Dakota Bowie.
Landry opened the second period by putting Edward Little ahead for good with a power-play goa,l assisted by Nadeua and Drew Lupardo. Lupardo scored the Eddies second power-play goal of the period just over midway through the period, assisted by Cody Russell and Jared Pelletier. Nadeau scored his second goal, an unassisted short-handed goal early in the third period for the game’s final score.
Cony’s Matt Swan turned away 41 shots in the loss, while senior goalie Dick Belanger stopped 35 of 36 shots for EL.
