What was your first reaction to being traded to Lewiston, and what were your initial thoughts when you came to Lewiston’s training camp?
When I found out I was traded, I was definitely happy about the trade, because I knew some guys on the team. Ever since Cameron (Critchlow) was traded here from Bathurst, I’d heard it was a good place to play. I was excited to become a part of that. When i got here, I definitely thought it was going to be a good year, because I felt the guys were really close, I like the coaching staff, thing like that. I wanted to try and enjoy myself as much as possible and have that transfer into my game.
You had an early-season invite to the Montreal Canadiens’ training camp. Talk about that experience and how that has helped you along the way.
It was definitely a really good experience. It was a great opportunity to learn from the best, about what they do. It was unbelievable to see all the players and the training facilities. It’s really top-of-the-line, everything they have there. That was something I’ll remember for the rest of my life.
After a mixed bag of success at the beginning of the year, the team caught fire. Talk about that early run of success for the team, and how that helps build confidence.
I take my roll pretty seriously of giving the team a chance to win every night. Every night, that’s what my focus is, to give the team and the players a chance to win. I thought we did a pretty good job of that, and with the team we have, and the group of guys we have, when you do that, you’re going to win a lot of the time.
How does being here in Lewiston differ from your other stops in the league?
I think everywhere I’ve been so far, every place has been a little bit of a different experience. Every team has different ways of doing things, different coaching techniques. I think in Bathurst, being the first place I played, it was definitely special for me to play there. Going to Rouyn-Noranda, we had a really good team and it was a good opportunity to have a good run in the playoffs, and so when I came here, again I have another really great team in front of me, so I’m using my experience last year to try and better that and go forward into the playoffs.
How good is this team, and how good can this team be, and why?
When we’re on our game, I think we can beat any team in this league, no problem. I think we’ve proven that we can beat the best teams in the league so far, so once we get to the playoffs, we could get on a roll and just have greater confidence in each round, I think we can go all the way.
