LYMAN, Maine (AP) — The Maine Attorney General’s Office is investigating a police shooting of a Sanford man during a confrontation in which the shooting victim brandished knives.

The Maine Sunday Telegram says 22-year-old Andrew Landry was shot Saturday night in Lyman by a sergeant with the York County Sheriff’s Office. Police say two deputies responding to a call for help were met by Landry, who brandished two knives, and two other individuals.

After moving the other two individuals to safety, the deputies attempted to disarm Landry with a Taser but did not succeed, leading to the use of deadly force.

Sgt. Kyle Kassa has been placed on paid administrative leave. All police shootings are investigated by the attorney general’s office.
