Risking his life as he made his way out upon the treacherous ice, former policeman John F. O’Brien made a desperate effort to save a little French boy from drowning Sunday afternoon. Reaching out as the lad was sinking for the last time, he was just able to grasp the boy’s cap as he sunk. The daring attempt of rescue was made in the presence of a man who had stood by without making an effort to save the boy.

The annual supper meeting of the Lewiston Municipal Credit Union will be held Wednesday at the Musical Literary clubrooms with many of its 657 members in attendance.
A nominating committee consists of Mrs. Constance Bickford, education department; Lucien Bilodeau, public works; and Lt. Andre Roux, police. Membership in this credit union is limited to municipal employees.

Esther Gammon, a former shoe worker for 26 years, has been hired as a part-time assistant to Auburn City Clerk Mary Lou Magno.
Ms. Gammon will work afternoons in the clerk’s office at the City Building. She worked at Belgrade Shoe of Auburn for 15 years and Dori Shoe Co. of Cedar Street in Lewiston for 11 years before training for her new position.
