NORWAY — This year’s Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Fair is looking for farmers, producers, restaurant owners and summer camp owners.
The Oxford Hills is home to a growing number of small farms and locally owned businesses, including restaurants and summer camps. The fair’s co-sponsors, Fare Share Co-op and Harvest Moon Farm, believe it’s time they meet each other.
The fair, to be held Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 26 and 27, will include a speaker at on the topic of local food at 11 a.m. Saturday. Sunday will include a panel discussion at 11 a.m., including a producers and buyers. Both days will have opportunities for local farming and business people to meet.
Traditionally, the CSA Fair focuses on a partnership between consumers and farmers in which members buy shares of the farm’s harvest and receive regular allotments of food throughout the growing season.
For farmers, this provides cash flow for the beginning of the season, as well as a ready market and community of supporters. Shareholders join in the risks of the growing season, but reap the benefits of the harvest. This year, the fair will include at least seven local CSA producers.
The fair is being expanded to include farmers who do not have CSAs, and the restaurants and summer camps that could buy from them if they knew how to find each other.
The fair will be held at the Fare Share Commons , 443 Main St. A local lunch will be available from noon to 1 p.m.
