CASTINE — Maine Maritime Academy student, Brandon Dubois, Lewiston, recently received a scholarship from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). The scholarship was presented at the college’s annual Celebration of Achievement.
Dubois was one of 11 students to receive the scholarship, an academic distinction at the college, recognizing the accomplishments of outstanding engineering students and the academic support of ABS, a U.S. ship classification society.
Dubois was selected for the honor by a committee of engineering faculty and administrators based on his overall grade point average, his classroom and academic leadership and his intellectual curiosity and growth. A graduate of Lewiston High School, Dubois is a member of the MMA class of 2011.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of ABS Robert D. Sommerville, a 1965 graduate of MMA, presented the scholarships to students in the college’s Marine Systems Engineering program. Recipients will each be presented with a $10,000 scholarship in each of their final two years at MMA and will be given the opportunity to complete an internship with ABS.
