Today being Washington’s Birthday the schools, banks and library in Auburn will be closed. The post office will be open in the morning from 7:30 to 9 and in the afternoon from 3 to 4. The carriers will make one delivery in the morning and will collect from the boxes at night as usual.

Action on a requested dancing permit for Dennis Diner, 751 Sabattus St., was tabled by the Lewiston Board of Aldermen last night until the new administration takes office next month.
Before the board was an application from Mrs. Muguette Dennis for a permit on a 90-day trial basis “with the understanding that if any complaints are registered that Dennis Diner is not operating according to the law of the authorities, said approval will be withdrawn.”

Junior forward T. J. Hesler hit a layup with three seconds remaining Friday evening to give the Lewiston Blue Devils a 70-68 basketball win over Edward little in their regular season finale at the Lewiston High School gymnasium.
The outcome crushed Edward Little’s hopes of qualifying for the Western Maine Class A tournament. The Red Eddies needed a victory over Lewiston to have any chance of surpassing Oxford Hills for the 10th and final playoff spot.
