The wait continues for Edward Little and Dirigo.
Basketball regional championship games at Augusta Civic Center and Bangor Auditorium — already pushed back from the weekend due to Friday’s snowstorm — were called off again as a result of Monday’s messy weather.
Edward Little’s quest for a third consecutive Eastern Class A championship against Bangor originally was scheduled for Friday.
Now, it will be played at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, immediately following the Hampden-Messalonskee girls’ final in Augusta.
That will leave the winner three days to prepare for Saturday’s state final, also to be played in the capital city.
Eastern Class C championships also fell victim to the weather.
Dirigo, which won its third straight Western Maine crown Saturday with a 63-58 victory over Boothbay, must hang on another day to find out whether Lee or Sumner will be its opponent.
Lee and Sumner will tip off at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, preceded by the girls’ final between Orono and Washington at 5:05 p.m.
The Class C boys’ state final is scheduled for 8:45 p.m. Saturday in Bangor.
Monday’s Western Class A championships in Portland were played as scheduled. Snow and ice turned to rain earlier in the southwest corner of the state.
Until this rash of postponements, the 2008 Class C and D state championship games were the last tournament finals to be rescheduled.
