LISBON FALLS — Albert and Doris Gagne of Bowdoin were speakers at the Lisbon Historical Society meeting on Feb. 9. Gagne told the story behind “The State Boys Rebellion,” a book on the true story of American eugenics and the men who overcame it.

Members and guests heard about the lives of the children while at the Walter E. Fernald State School in Waltham, Mass.

Gagne said he has worked a lifetime trying to clear the name “moron” from his records, a title given to him while attending the school and followed him through his life.

A question-and-answer session followed the program.

The evening ended with a Valentine swap and a social, with refreshments served along with Bill Barr’s birthday cake he received from Dorothy Smith.

Don and Beverly Boyer supplied a matted sweetheart photo and a vase of candy for the guessing game, with Karen Lemke winning both prizes.

Cathy White of St. Mary’s Lifeline will be the guest speaker at the Wednesday, March 9, meeting. The session will be held at 7 p.m. at the MTM Center, Rooms 5 and 6, 18 School St. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. For more information, call Dorothy Smith at 353-8510 or Bill Barr at 353-4388.
