WOODSTOCK — In a little less than two hours, 83 town voters approved all but one of the 40 articles on the municipal warrant.
In all, about $1 million in spending was approved.
The only article rejected was a citizen request for the Board of Selectmen to appoint a committee to create a set-back ordinance for any future industrial wind-power projects. The measure was defeated with 46 voting against it and 37 voting for the measure.
Steve Bies was elected to a 3-year term on the Board of Selectmen.
Marcel Polak was reelected to another three year term as SAD 44 School Board Director and Sonja Davis and Edwin Howe to the Whitman Memorial Library Board of Trustees. All four ran unopposed.
State Rep. Jarrod Crockett, R-Bethel, addressed voters,telling them they could call him any time. He assured the crowd that a bipartisan budget will be coming forth from Augusta.
Voters approved an updated shoreland zoning ordinance, making it easier for those subject to shoreland zoning to work on their property.
With almost no discussion $15,000 was approved in addition to the regular department budget . The additional money would help fund Woodstock’s share of an Enhanced Mutual Aid Agreement with neighboring Greenwood. This will allow for day-time coverage of both towns by having two firefighters at each town’s station on alternating weekdays.
“It is getting harder with federal mandates, rules and regulations and the economy,” to have a quick response as most volunteers work out of town, Fire Chief Geff Inman told voters.
Another $15,000 was approved for a seed account for future repairs or reconstruction of the town-owned dam at the outlet to Bryant Pond.
Voters also approver $112,000 for the G & W Transfer Station.
Town Manager Vern Maxfield acknowledged that over the past three weeks there have been negotiations with Pine Tree Waste to see if they may take over operations at the transfer station.
A cap of $135,000 for a new plow truck to replace a 12-year-old truck was also approved.
