100 years ago,1911

Morneau and Grondin of Lewiston have purchased a specially constructed ambulance for the carrying of the sick or disabled. It is fitted with heating and lighting apparatus, automobile axle brake, ventilators, medicine and clothing cabinets, side doors, and is finely finished in white enamel.

50 years ago, 1961

Androscoggin River flow at Gulf Island dam was up slightly yesterday, and Union Water Power Co. Agent Paul W. Bean reported it to be between 6,000 and 7,000 cubic feet per second.

Bean also reported that river ice is continuing to break up and additional stretches of the river are now clean. Ice has cleared from the river between Rumford and the Gilbertville bridge and from Livermore to North Turner bridge as well as between the Twin Cities and Durham

25 years ago, 1986

After reviewing 40 resumes and conducting scores of interviews over the past two months, Auburn City Manager Charles A. Morrison said Friday he will recommend that the city councilors appoint Purchasing Agent Gerald H. Rolfe as the city’s new finance director.

If approved by the council at its April 7 meeting, Rolfe would fill the vacancy created in January by the death of George C. Kehoe, who served as finance director for more than ten years.
