SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Samantha Clark, 16, a Lewiston High sophomore and honor roll student, was a finalist in the Miss High School America 2011 national scholarship pageant on March 6 at the Scottish Rite Museum in San Antonio.
Clark, daughter of Kevin and Sheri Clark, is an accomplished dancer and field hockey athlete. She has performed in many recitals and volunteers in a local dance studio, along with participating in the Lewiston High field hockey team and travel teams.
Clark was described by the Miss High School America judges as poised, eloquent and graceful. State Director Deb Landry of Saco described Samantha as a bright, enthusiastic young women who is multi-talented.
The judges considered contestants’ academic achievement, community service experience in a personal interview along with fashion and evening gown. The pageant does not have a swimsuit or talent component, according to Landry.
Clark’s list of extracurricular activities includes volunteering for, mentoring and fundraising for Crossroads Youth Center in Saco, Let’s Go Maine 5210 and the Michele Obama Let’s Move Program. She will be featured on the cover of Breathe Magazine for her work promoting healthy Maine living last fall. Landry and Saco-area physician Christine Blake, the 2010 Mrs. Maine-America title-holder, coached Clark in preparation for competition, with Blake designing both her competition gowns.
Miss Collegiate America and Miss High School America represent today’s young women and has the mission to assist young women and men in scholarship achievement and personal growth. Clark hopes to pursue a career in journalism.
