For the first time in many months, the Lewiston police made a liquor raid, Sunday evening. Complaints were received at the station that a beer party was in progress at one of the houses on Mill street, a short street running parallel to the Lower Maine Central railroad, from Chestnut street.
The patrol, with Captain Walsh and Officers Dostie and Langelier was sent to the place. They found it necessary to break in a door before locating the liquor, and could find no one to take to the station with it. In the lot were two half barrels of beer, several glasses, a sprinkler and a faucet. It was locked up in the strong room at City Hall.

Dozens of Maine school districts, hospitals and small businesses may have to pay for removal of old oil and other waste they paid to have placed in Gray’s McKin hazardous waste disposal site 10 to 20 years ago.
School departments in Auburn and Lewiston, the Auburn Novelty Shop, and the City of Lewiston and its Public Works Department are among 350 parties potentially responsible for the cleanup. Each allegedly contributed between 1,500 and 5,813 gallons of waste to the site, according to McKin documents given to a steering committee.
