100 years ago,1911
Alfred C. O’Connell of Lewiston and Walter A. French of Portland, railway mail clerks, were injured in a wreck at New Gloucester, Tuesday afternoon. The mail car left the rails, derailing the baggage car and engine, and broke away from th other cars. Neither clerk received dangerous injuries, and no one else on the train was injured.
50 years ago, 1961
The first round of Career Days talks opened yesterday at Lewiston High School and the program continues through today with additional business and professional people discussing various occupations with students.
Career Days, sponsored by the Education Committee of the Lewiston Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with the high school, is designed to aid the students in the choice of a career. It also is designed to help younger students with planning their high school programs.

WALES — The Oak Hill High School Committee approved curriculum changes for the 1986-87 school year at Thursday night’s meeting.
The curriculum changes, said Principal David Wing, meet the needs of Oak Hill students without lowering the school’s standards. Oak Hill’s standards have been higher than state mandated standards for several years, he noted.
