The appointments of the police of the City of Lewiston, constable, and other minor officers, were made at a midnight meeting of the Lewiston city government, and it was nearly one o’clock before the meeting adjourned. Arsene Cailler was elected Marshal, W.F. Pitman, Deputy Marshal, and all but a few of the patrolmen whose terms expire were returned.

Anglers will find a few spots to dip a line on the opening day of the Maine fishing season today, but Game Warden Philip J. Mahaney of Auburn said last night it will be another two weeks before any of the lakes show open water.
Mahaney said some brooks in the Gray area are open and some stretches of brooks in the Lewiston and Auburn area are open.
25 years ago, 1986
Maine’s third case of whooping cough in recent months has been diagnosed in Lewiston, according to state Bureau of Health Director Dr. William S. Nersesian, who urged parents to make sure their children have been immunized against the disease.
Nersesian said the infant, a young girl, was diagnosed as having the disease, which can be fatal if not treated in time.
