100 years ago,1911

The Sun visited the store rooms of Sheriff Lowe’s deputies yesterday afternoon in the County buildings. These rooms are located in the basement where there is much of interest to be seen. The Sun was shown through all of the rooms and the method of disposing of the liquors thoroughly explained. There is a large quantity of goods stored there and in some ways the rooms resemble the shipping rooms of a brewery.

50 years ago, 1961

“In an effort to promote more efficient care of the seriously ill patients at Central Maine General Hospital, an Intensive Care Unit was opened yesterday,” Executive Director Dana Thompson announced last night.

“By bringing together a concentration of highly skilled personnel and emergency equipment in one area, it will be possible to provide the most seriously ill patients with better care at less cost,” he added.

The unit, which initially has space for six patients, is located on the fourth floor of the hospital.

25 years ago, 1986

Lewiston’s public works director is one of two candidates still in the running for the vacated superintendent’s position of the Auburn Water and Sewerage District, The Sun learned Thursday.

Sewerage District board member Stephen B. Wade confirmed that a choice will soon be made between Normand Lamie, who was superintendent of Lewiston’s Water and Sewer Division before being promoted to his current job in 1982, and Aubrey “Bob” Palmer, who has been acting superintendent in Auburn since the departure of Earle A. Tarr Jr. in February.
