LITCHFIELD — Townspeople elected town officers Tuesday in preparation for the annual meeting Saturday, June 11.
The town meeting will cover a variety of budgetary issues, including standard municipal operating costs as well as several ordinances allowing the town to participate in federal and state programs for floodplain insurance and affordable clean energy for homes and businesses. The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. at the Sportsman’s Club in Litchfield.
The warrant lists 50 articles, with selectmen and the Budget Committee in agreement on every recommendation.
“The selectmen and the Budget Committee met quite extensively together. They had gone over it and figured it wasn’t a bad budget,” Town Clerk Doris Parlin said Tuesday. Other than Article 11, which covers administrative costs and includes a proposed “hefty raise” for Town Manager Mike Byron, there should be little controversy, Parlin said.
The conversation over that particular item may be quite lengthy, Budget Committee member Muriel Bonin said, adding that she did not support the town manager’s raise.
