100 years ago, 1911

Ernest R. Lord of Gammage Avenue, Auburn, returned from Moosehead Lake Monday afternoon with as handsome a string of fish as was ever seen in the two cities. At the Lord home are on exhibition 10 fish, all of good weight. There are two lake trout, a salmon and seven square tails. Since he went to Moosehead on Wednesday, he caught 71 pounds of salmon and trout.

50 years ago, 1961

Rene J. Berube, 60, of Park Street, Lewiston, had to call for help last night.

Mrs. Jesse Simmons of Spring Street telephoned Lewiston police shortly before 8:30 to report a stranger had called her on the telephone, explaining he was locked up in the bus terminal at 216 Main St. and would she call police to get him out.

Patrolman Robert Gladu investigated and found Berube locked in all right. Berube explained he had visited the men’s room and when he came out the place was locked up.

25 years ago, 1986

A new boys basketball program and organized track and field activities will be initiated by the Auburn Parks and Recreation Department this summer if costs can be met and sufficient interest is shown.

The basketball program will be run by new Edward Little High School basketball coach Bob Brown, while Danny Campbell, ELHS assistant boys’ track and field coach and head cross-country coach, has offered to try and start the track and field activity.
