LEWISTON — A Winslow woman died Monday night  from multiple gunshot wounds, a spokeswoman at the Maine Office of the Chief Medical Examiner said Wednesday.

Sarah Gordon, 30, was killed on a street near her 4 Marie St. home, a Maine State Police spokesman said. After shooting his wife, Nathaniel Gordon, 32, shot himself in the head following a police chase that ended when he crashed his car into a guardrail on the Maine Turnpike in Gray.

Police said Gordon chased his wife down the street shortly before 8 p.m. Monday. Neighbors heard gunshots and alerted police.

The couple’s 8-year-old  son and 9-year-old daughter were placed in the custody of a grandparent Monday night.

The family had lived at the Marie Street address for about a year, police said.

Sarah Gordon’s death marks the seventh homicide for the year in Maine and the third to be connected to domestic violence.
