A Lewiston Police Department internal investigation into the origins of an electronic listening device discovered in a room where police officers take coffee breaks is almost completed, Police Chief Gregory C. Hanscom said Thursday night.
The bug was discovered April 28 inside the door of a coffee vending machine, said Patrolman Ivan Boudreau.
Boudreau said the wireless microphone is designed to transmit to a nearby receiver. He said the receiver was located in the captain’s office adjacent to the dispatch center.
Hanscom said he had no knowledge of the bug until it was brought to his attention by the patrolmen’s union.
