100 years ago, 1911
Among the active elderly people of Auburn is Moses Manley, who lives on the road to Littlefield’s Corner. Mr. Manley will be 90 years old the 10th of July. He is now busy hoeing his garden, having two he is taking care of. One of them is a nice piece of corn he planted himself. He has lived on the same place ever since the Civil War began.
50 years ago, 1961
An open house for the public drew more than 6,000 area residents to Raytheon Company’s new semi-conductor plant on the Lisbon Road, Saturday.
Company officials and employees conducted the visitors on tours between 1 and 7 p.m. At the end of the tours refreshments were available in the firm’s cafeteria.
Roger Senter, a Raytheon public relations man, said the firm was pleased with the turnout and he described the visitors as an “extremely orderly group.”
25 years ago, 1986
TURNER — Fourth of July night, residents of Turner will be able to enjoy a concert/dance under the stars as part of the Bicentennial Celebration.
The Danville Junction Boys are scheduled to entertain with their bluegrass music renditions at BQMC parking lot from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Residents are urged to bring their lawn chairs, blankets and coolers and enjoy the music with their friends as the 200th birthday party begins.
