100 years ago, 1911

State Fish and Game Warden Clark of Smithfield, who made some trouble for the local fishing sports at Lake Auburn a short time ago, has again arrived in Lewiston and has already spent two days at Lake Auburn. Owing to the lateness of the season very few are fishing, but Mr. Clark is keeping close watch on those who are. It will be remembered that the last time Mr. Clark visited the lake two cases were brought before the court and the local sports are now very careful of how many lines they use and the length of the fish they catch.

50 years ago, 1961

Members of the Columbian Squires, a youth organization affiliated with the Knights of Columbus, went to work trimming up Davis Cemetery on Sabattus Street last night, cutting the grass, trimming around the stones and flowers and raking. The cemetery looked spik ‘n span when they were done.

The Health-Welfare Board recently stated it would be unable to cut the grass any more this year because of a lack of budget funds.

25 years ago, 1986

Auburn’s Franklin School will be part of a national study of students enrolled in special programs who otherwise would have dropped out of school or run a high risk of leaving before graduation.

An educational research center in Madison, Wis., will examine area student achievement and attitudes.

Franklin School Director David Eretzian said Thursday representatives from the center will visit the school during the school year.
