YARMOUTH — Officials in the Maine community of Yarmouth are planning to draw down the level of one of two dams on the Royal River as part of a process that will give a glimpse of what the river would look like if the dams were removed.

After the Bridge Street dam is opened Aug. 15, officials will inspect the dam and assess the condition of an abandoned fish ladder.

The Portland Press Herald says they also plan to photograph the riverbed to see how it would look if its dams were removed.
