DEAR SUN SPOTS: My wife’s stepmother died recently, soon after she had been fitted with an expensive hearing aid. It seems a shame to have it languish in a drawer. Do you know of some place that could use this instrument to help hard-of-hearing people? — No Name via email

ANSWER: The Lions Club accepts hearing aids as well as eyeglasses. You can drop those hearing aids at ERA Worden Realty (Maryann Norcross, [email protected]) or Remax River Cities (Sandra Tassinari’s office). Each office is on Center Street in Auburn.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Can you tell me which charity accepts used glasses? — Jolene Juneau, [email protected]

ANSWER: The Lions will be pleased to accept your eyeglasses as well as No Name’s hearing aids.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Do you know who sharpens the blades of a nonmotorized rotary lawn mower? I’ve called several repair shops with no results. — Dull in Auburn

ANSWER: Sun Spots has this same question regularly. She doesn’t know of anyone in L-A. The only name she has is Art Beaulieu, Cony Road in Augusta, who said he can sharpen those mowers. You can reach him at 622-2579.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Is there an amateur astronomy group in the L-A–Mechanic Falls region? Thank you. — Judy McMorrow, [email protected]

ANSWER: Sun Spots found a website for an astronomy group supposedly based in Lewiston-Auburn, www.maineastronomicalsociety.com, but it was defunct.

She did find www.maineastro.com, an amateur astronomy group that meets in three locations in Central and Midcoast Maine. You can get more information about them by emailing [email protected].

Also, in January, there was a Sun Journal story about the Rangeley Astronomy Group. The contact for this group is Gerry Adams, retired teacher and amateur astronomer, leads the group. Those interested in attending should contact the library, museum or Adams for information: [email protected]; [email protected] or http://rangeleylibrary.com; or [email protected] or http://wilhelmreichmuseum.org

Perhaps other amateur astronomers will see this and let Sun Spots know of additional groups.
