100 years ago, 1911

E. L. Fowles exhibited in his shop window last evening an advertising device that he brought from New York with him. This is in the form of an electric search light, the flash being thrown upon the sidewalk or floor and showing illuminated letters for display. So brilliant is the light that it immediately attracts attention.

50 years ago, 1961

Auburn police were summoned at 8:08 a.m. yesterday to the Auburn-Lewiston Municipal Airport where a herd of cattle was blocking a runway and an airliner was due shortly. When police arrived they found that Arnold Coats, airport employee, had rounded up the cattle and had started them back to their Hardscrabble Road pasture.

25 years ago, 1986

A dairy farmer from Wales will begin dumping his milk Monday to protest low federal price standards and says he expects hundreds of other farmers from throughout Maine to join him.

Roger Fortin said Thursday dairy farmers will meet at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Augusta Civic Center to reaffirm their commitment to the milk strike. The effort will continue, he said, until the federal standard for the price of 100 pounds of milk in Maine is raised from just under $13 to $23.10.
