PERU — Road Commissioner Joe Roach told selectmen Monday night that damage to roads from Tropical Storm Irene over the weekend was severe.

“On Dickvale Road, two large steel culverts that carry streams were eroded. One is Cummings Brook bridge, which will be closed to thru traffic until further notice,” he said.

Roach noted there were three households beyond the bridge and he didn’t know how this would affect them.

The other culvert on Dickvale Road has been repaired to allow two-way traffic.

Roach said large downed trees on Valley and Packard roads had been removed. He also said Burbank Road lost one lane due to heavy runoff, but was back to two lanes Monday afternoon.

“I want to thank the Fire Department and concerned citizens for their help and support during the road crisis during the storm,” he said.

Selectman Laurieann Milligan asked to have the minutes of the last meeting corrected because she felt she had informed the board on all actions on the grant application for the old Peru school.

“I don’t think the minutes reflected this,” she said.

Milligan also said she had not acted on her own as it appeared in the minutes.

Selectman Ed Ferland still insisted that he thought she acted alone.

Milligan disagreed.

The issue of signs at The Bus eatery on Greenwoods Road need to be resolved, according to the Planning Board.

The seasonal takeout food business is within 250 feet of Worthley Pond, and the Shoreland Zoning Ordinance addresses such signs.

Ferland said the signs weren’t doing any damage to the lake.

Milligan said they are a violation of town ordinance.

The board will seek input from the Maine Department of Environmental Protection.
