9/11 Walk

SABATTUS — The Sabattus American Legion, Sabattus Fire Department and Sabattus Police Department will conduct a 9/11 Remembrance Walk on Sept. 11. The walk will begin at 1 p.m. at the Sabattus American Legion Post 135 and will conclude at the Sabattus Monument with a ceremony to commemorate the innocent victims, public servants and military personnel lost on Sept. 11, 2001. The public is encouraged to observe the 9/11 Remembrance Walk and attend the ceremony. For more information call 375-4078.

Cancer caregivers

LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at Central Maine Medical Center is offering a free lunch and learn for cancer caregivers. Caring for My Mom will take place from noon to 1:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at CMMC, 12 High St., in conference room D.

Adult children who become caregivers have a unique experience, role and perspective that differ from other types of caregivers. Presenter Mary Dempsey will share tips she has learned since her mother was diagnosed with cancer in 1997.

Dempsey has worked at CMMC for 31 years and is the assistant director at The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing. She embraces the opportunity to assist patients and families in their cancer journey.

Photo contest

GRAY — The Royal River Conservation Trust will hold its first annual photo contest with photo submissions that profile the Royal River Watershed area. The area begins at Sabbathday Lake, where the Royal River begins its 25-mile journey to Casco Bay.

The watershed covers New Gloucester, Auburn, Gray, North Yarmouth and Yarmouth areas within the watershed of the Royal River.

‘Night of Laughs’

LISBON — Lisbon Emergency is conducting a fundraiser to raise money and support. All contributors will receive an official receipt and tickets to a special PG-13 “Night of Laughs” comedy show on Friday, Oct. 7, at Lisbon High School for some of the Boston area’s most popular standup comedians who have been featured on Letterman, Leno, Sirius Radio and more. There will be two shows, one at 7 p.m. and one at 9.

Cribbage league

SABATTUS — Sabattus American Legion will start a cribbage league at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13. The league runs for 15 weeks at a cost of $1 per week. Players do not have to be a member of the American Legion to join. For more information, call Carol Laplante at 782-4181.

ID trees, shrubs

LISBON — A free tree identification walk will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, at Beaver Park Lone Pine Lodge.

Verla Brooks, Lisbon Park Ranger, will help participants learn to identify the various trees and shrubs that grow in the park.

Participants should wear comfortable walking shoes, dress for the weather and expect to walk at least one to one-and-a-half miles. Hot drinks and refreshments will be available at the Lone Pine Lodge after the walk. Register by Sept. 15 by calling Beaver Park at 353-9075 or emailing [email protected]. This event is scheduled rain or shine.

Girl Scouts info

AUBURN — Girl Scouts of Maine will host an All Out for Girl Scouts Fall Event from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at the United Methodist Church of Auburn, 439 Park Ave.

Girls and adults are invited to attend the event to find out about the many different and fun ways today’s girls are participating in Girl Scouting and how the programs and activities inspire them to reach their personal best. Girls will have an opportunity to sample some activities and adults will also learn about the flexible options and benefits of becoming a Girl Scout volunteer.

Marley for Dempsey

LEWISTON — United Ambulance Service in Lewiston has put together a team to participate in the Dempsey Challenge, a fundraising event for the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing.

A comedy show featuring Bob Marley will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, at the Lewiston Middle School Auditorium, 75 Central Ave. Doors open at 6 p.m.
