50 years ago, 1961

One of Lewiston’s municipal boards goes out of existence about mid-September.

One of the charter bills passed by the 100th Legislature erases the Zoning Board and its functions will be handled by the Zoning Board of Appeals. Proponents of the bill, submitted by Senator Emile “Bill” Jacques, argue that unnecessary duplication is involved in the present two-board setup.

25 years ago, 1986

“So You Think You Know Maine” will air its 10th anniversary special Thursday at 9 p.m., featuring interviews with present and past hosts, producers and directors of former years and show clips of past programs.

The popular show was the brainstorm of Andy Jenson, the show’s first host, and Laurie Maney, WCBB-TV production coordinator, when it hit the airwaves back in 1976 as one of the state’s Bicentennial projects.
