Beekeepers

MEXICO — Western Maine Beekeepers Association will present a slide show and talk by State Apiarist Tony Jadczak on getting hives ready for winter. The class will be on Wednesday, Sept. 7, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Region 9 School, Route 2.

Beekeepers need to properly prepare their hives for winter to ensure survival. This class will cover the latest treatments for pests and diseases as well as tips and techniques for getting hives through the winter.

All area beekeepers are invited to attend the free presentation.

RUMFORD — Rumford Senior Citizens will take a trip to Hollywood Slots on Sept. 9. The bus leaves at 8 a.m. Seats are still available. The cost is $25.

Roast pork supper

MEXICO — A public roast pork supper will be served at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Mexico Congregational UCC (the “Green Church” on Main Street). The menu also includes homemade pies. Adults, $7; children under 12, $3. Take outs will be available at 5:30. Call 364-8603.

Family Fun Day

RUMFORD — The Apostolic Church of Rumford will host the second annual Family Fun Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, at the DARE Park field across from Aubuchon Hardware.

The celebration and promotion of the “American Family” is the theme of the event. There will be free prize drawings, games and prizes for children, singing, food and drinks. Remember, honor and celebrate the American family on the 10th anniversary of 9/11. Rain date is Sunday, Sept. 18.

MEXICO — The class of 1952 from Stephens High School of Rumford will meet at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at the Mexico Chicken Coop for their monthly luncheon. All class members and guests welcome.

Rumford quilters

RUMFORD — Rumford Area Quilters will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at the Rumford United Methodist Church, Linnell Street, for the first meeting of the 2011-12 season. This year’s program will be discussed. Bring your summer projects for show and tell and any quilt magazines to share. All area quilters are invited to these monthly meetings held the second Monday of the month. For more information call 562-7050.

Grief support

WILTON — Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice will offer fall grief support throughout the Lewiston-Auburn, Norway, Bridgton and Farmington-Wilton areas.

The program for Grieving Children and Teens will be held in Lewiston beginning Sept. 20 and in Wilton beginning Sept. 15. Please call 795-9462 to preregister.

Guidance through Grief, an adult grief support group in Lewiston, will begin on Sept. 20 with two offerings, one from 2 to 3:30 p.m. and one from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Pathways through Grief, offered in the Norway and Bridgton areas, will begin both groups on Sept. 21.
