100 years ago, 1911

This week, quite the sure first hit is the big musical comedy company at the Empire, where twice daily a change of show is made with a gathering of new numbers, new song hits, new music, and new comedy is presented by George Oyey, the clever comedian, assisted by his supporting vivacious girls. Capacity houses have been the sight all week, and to witness these large audiences revel in the fun, music and songs is a feast worth witnessing.

50 years ago, 1961

Following a lengthy discussion last night, the Auburn Superintending School Committee decided not to go into a special insurance coverage program for high school and junior high school football squads and, instead, suggested that parents of football players take advantage of coverage available through the pupil insurance plan.

The school committee felt that this plan was the most desirable and that many families already have insurance, which would provide coverage for injuries suffered by the high school and junior high school football squad members.

25 years ago, 1986

Two Maine legislators, one of them from Lewiston, will attend the 15th General Assembly of the International Association of French Speaking Parliamentarians next week at Quebec City.

Sen. Georgette B. Berube, D-Lewiston, and Rep. Donald V. Carter, D-Winslow, will represent Maine at the week-long session to be attended by delegates from four continents.
