100 years ago, 1911

A crowd of people stood on the corner of Court and Main streets in Auburn last evening watching a bright light in the sky. All were of the opinion that the flying machine was making a night flight. In reality, it was the rays cast by a large spotlight situated on the Empire Theatre in Lewiston.

50 years ago, 1961

Lewiston Police Chief Roland C. Amnott revealed yesterday that lie detector tests will be given next week to several persons involved in the probe of the death of 59-year-old Arthur Morin.

Authorities have been told conflicting stories by some of the persons quizzed during the investigation and will attempt to piece together some of the loose ends.

Current plans call for the lie detector tests on Monday and Tuesday. They will be given at State Police headquarters at Augusta, it was reported.

25 years ago, 1986

The owner of Chicken City, 2 Riverside Drive, reported to Auburn police that he saw three men get out of a white station wagon, smash up a 20-inch BMX bicycle and throw it off the South Bridge into the Androscoggin River at about 10:05 p.m. Sunday. An officer said he saw the bicycle in the river.
