FALMOUTH, Maine (AP) — Police say a 17-year-old boy drowned while swimming with friends in a river in southern Maine.

Falmouth police Lt. John Kilbridge tells the Portland Press Herald that five boys were swimming along the edge of the Presumpscot River early Saturday evening when one of the boys began struggling and went under. The other boys tried to find him, but the water was too murky.

Divers from the Maine Marine Patrol and Yarmouth Rescue Dive Team found the boy’s body nearly two hours later just a few feet from where the group had been swimming.

Police are withholding the victim’s name until his family is notified.
