LEWISTON — The Maine Community Foundation’s People of Color Fund Committee recently awarded $52,520 in grants to 10 organizations working to engage people of color in developing solutions and services in their home communities.

Locally, Trinity Episcopal Church’s Urban Ministry Center received a grant for the “street leader” project providing paid internships for nine students who will act as mentors to elementary school age youth throughout the summer while receiving leadership/job training coupled with college.

A volunteer committee representing communities of color throughout the state reviews grants and makes recommendations for funding. The next deadline for applying is March 15. Application and guidelines will be available this fall at www.mainecf.org.
