GREENE — A Lewiston man was injured Friday afternoon when he crashed his motorcycle into the back of an SUV on Route 202.

Kenneth Allen, 61, suffered leg and possible head injuries after he laid down his 2004 Harley-Davidson in an attempt to avoid the collision.

Police said Allen was driving east on Route 202, away from Lewiston, when traffic slowed to a stop in front of him. By the time he realized it, Allen was unable to avoid sliding into a Chevy Trailblazer driven by Cynthia Lambert, 34, of Farmington.

The crash occurred in front of Donovan’s Auto Sales. Witnesses said several people stopped at the scene to help Allen while rescue crews were on their way.

He was being treated at a Lewiston hospital later Friday.

Police said damage to his Harley was estimated at $5,000. Damage to the Trailblazer was minor, according to State Police Trooper Ricci Cote. Lambert was not hurt.
