Lewis and Ruth

Flewelling

MOUNT VERNON — Lewis and Ruth Flewelling of Mount Vernon recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Lewis Flewelling, son of Otto and Evelyn Flewelling, and Ruth Thomas were married on July 21, 1946, in Skowhegan at the home of the bride’s mother and stepfather, Mabel and Amos Dickinson.

A family gathering was held on Sunday, July 24, at the Weathervane Restaurant in Readfield to commemorate the milestone event. All four of the couple’s children — Bill, Millie, Lisa and Jeff — were in attendance. Mr. Flewelling’s sister, Thelma Pooler, the bridesmaid, attended from Skowhegan with her daughter, Jane Jean. Mrs. Flewelling’s sister, Mabel Larsen, the flower girl, came from Norridgewock, along with her husband, Gerald.

A special anniversary cake was made and decorated by daughter, Millie who also read a tribute to her parents. The cake was topped with the original hand-crafted icing bride and bridegroom figure from the couple’s own wedding cake.

The couple’s son, Bill, also offered words of celebration and thanks to his parents and everyone in attendance raised a toast in honor of the occasion.

The flower arrangements consisted of hydrangea, since hydrangea had been the wedding flowers. The couple received many cards and a special guest book with greetings from everyone in attendance.
