PORTER — A man was found dead inside his home on Spec Pond Road, which was set to be searched by federal investigators Friday, police said.
“It appears 30-year-old Gardner Halsey died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Stephen McCausland said in a prepared statement.
Halsey’s body was found on the first floor after members of the Maine State Police tactical team entered the house shortly after noon, police said.
The tactical team was called to the Spec Pond Road house after federal investigators heard a gunshot as they were approaching the house this morning to execute a search warrant.
The search was being conducted by the FBI, but no details were released on what investigators were looking for, McCausland said.
The tactical was called out as it was conducting training exercises in the Piscataquis County town of Sebec. Hundreds of motorists saw the caravan of cruisers headed south on the Interstate, McCausland said.
