Jenna Parker, 6, of Poland bites into a cookie that she made at McMahon Elementary School in Lewiston on Saturday during Kids’ Day America. The former national event that “fizzled,” according to local organizer Chandra Sasseville, was kept alive locally by her efforts and those of dozens of volunteers who came to the Lewiston school to donate their time and talents. The Lewiston Fire Department, Lewiston Police Department, United Ambulance and other organizations kept the kids busy with games, food, wellness checks and fingerprinting.
Emily Slaton, 8, of Lewiston is wowed by a stick bug from Vietnam that Susan Desjardins was holding. Desjardins was with Mr. Drew and His Animals exhibit that brought dozens of animals and insects to show kids at McMahon Elementary School in Lewiston on Saturday during Kids’ Day America. More than $2,500 was raised to benefit New Beginnings.
