LEWISTON — Mr. Claude Rossignol, 92, has donated his writings of many years to the Franco-American Heritage Center. Hundreds of pages both in French and in English were given to the center to be preserved and passed down for future generations to learn about the French Catholic heritage.
His reason for donating these to the center was so that some of this valuable information on his generation would not be lost. His wish is to share them with others who could benefit from his life’s experiences growing up French and Catholic.
Rossignol was married to his wife Mabel for more than 50 years, had seven children and came from a large family of 20 siblings, a very familiar and typical scenario for many Franco families. He is originally from Frenchville in northern Maine and served in the Army as a chaplain, went to a seminary in Connecticut to study for the priesthood and left there just prior to taking his final vows. He then went to work in construction, also worked at Geiger Brothers and at CMMC.
Rossignol has been a resident at Odd Fellows Home in Auburn for the past 10 years. His hobby and favorite pastime is to work on his spiritual writings with the hope of sharing them with others.
