Home Circle of Brooks Lodge of Odd Ladies was entertained Thursday evening at the Lake Grove House, East Auburn, by Mrs. Arvilla Moore. After a picnic supper, the evening was spent in sewing and then whist was enjoyed. The dining room was attractively decorated with autumn flowers and foliage.
50 years ago, 1961
For two days a high minded feline, tentatively called “Kitty” patrolled the upper reaches of a tall elm tree at 100 Spring St., Auburn. Apparently, Kitty had been chased up the 70-foot tree by an over-excited pooch and, upon finding herself 70 feet off the ground, discovered that she had never learned how to climb down trees. After everything else had failed, the SPCA contacted professional tree-climber Llewellyn Miller, who rescued the wind-buffeted, hungry feline from her precarious perch, much to the delight of her small master, Leonard Perkins of Spring Street.

Congresswoman Olympia Snowe is making a campaign stop during the shift change at general Electric on Rodman Road in Auburn on Sept. 29, between 6 and 6:30 a.m.
“I’m looking forward to getting out and meeting the G.E. workers,” said Rep. Snowe, who is completing her fourth term representing Maine’s Second Congressional District.
