SOUTH PARIS — Junior midfielder Colleen Stauder scored the eventual game-winning goal in the first half as Oxford Hills nudged Lawrence 2-1 in KVAC girls’ soccer action Friday.
Though the Bulldogs were stronger on offense, 7-5 in shots on goal, Oxford Hills made better use of their scoring opportunities.
The Vikings (5-2-3) took a 2-0 lead into intermission. Mikayla Morin scored the first tally of the game.
Goalie Ahlin Belanger had three saves for Lawrence, while goalie Bre Martin defended six to earn the win in net for Oxford Hills.
Edward Little 1, Brewer 0
AUBURN — Emily Hartnett beat the Brewer goalie on a rebound for the game’s only goal to lift Edward Little to a 1-0 victory over the Witches in a KVAC girls’ soccer game.
After a scoreless first half, the Red Eddies’ pressure finally paid off. Hartnett scored the game-winner with 19 minutes left to play. Jaclyn Masters was credited with an assist.
EL (2-5-2) outshot Brewer, 20-2. Taylor Landry stopped two shots for the shutout. while Missy Thompson had 19 saves.
Cony 2, Lewiston 0
AUGUSTA — Josie Lee used an Emily Quirion assist to score the first goal of the game in the second half as Cony snuck off with a 2-0 victory in a girls’ soccer game Friday.
After a scoreless first half, the Rams put two goals together, with Mia Diplock scoring the second goal of the contest.
But the Blue Devils (3-6-0) outshot the Rams, 17-6, but couldn’t find the open net. Lewiston netminder Emily Dixon made 11 saves.
Rangeley 3, GPC 2
PORTLAND — Shelby Elmes scored with 3:15 remaining to lift Rangeley to a 3-2 triumph over Greater Portland Christian in girls’ soccer action Friday.
Both teams traded scores in the first half. Jennifer Abbott put the Rangers (3-4) on the board first with an unassisted goal. Elaine Beech scored the first of her two goals later in the half to tie the score.
Beech put GPC ahead with her second score to open the second half. Abbey Abbott tied the score midway through the half for Rangeley before Elmes’ game winner.
GPC’s (0-7) keeper Clarissa Jones turned away 13 shots in the loss. Senior netminder Emily Carrier stopped 17 shots for Rangeley earning the victory.
Field hockey
Telstar 2, St. Dom’s 0
BETHEL — Lyndsay Merrill guided a pair of goals as Telstar notched a 2-0 victory over St. Dom’s in MVC field hockey action Friday.
Despite being out matched on offense, the Saints (0-10-1) contained Telstar scoring in the first half and held the Rebels (4-6) to only a pair from Merrill in the second half.
Merrill’s first goal came off a direct penalty kick, and the second tally came on a pass into the middle of the circle.
Goalie Jenna Fongemie made seven saves for St. Dom’s, while goalie Hali Barter collected the shutout without a save for Telstar.
Traip 7, Poland 2
POLAND — Traip scored five second-half goals to beat Poland 7-2 in WMC field hockey action Friday afternoon.
The Knights struck first with a goal from Mimi Carmichael, assisted by Amanda Dube. Following Andrews’ first tally that tied the game at 1-1, Dube turned an assist from Kelsey DeBurra for Poland’s last lead of the game.
Kaylie Andrews scored three goals to lead the Rangers. Haylie Alessi contributed a pair in the winning effort.
Junior goalie Melora Lavoie made 23 saves, while Emily Bolton turned away six to earn the win in net for Traip.
Lisbon 3, Dirigo 0
DIXFIELD — Three different scorers found the back of the net for the Lisbon Greyhounds as they blanked Dirigo 3-0 in class C field hockey action.
Sophomore forward Hanna Jordan struck first for the Greyhounds knocking in the only goal in the first half on an assist from Jessica Campbell. Olivia Harrington and Jennifer Smith each found the back of the net in the second half to complete the scoring for Lisbon. Lindsey Whitney and Campbell each assisted on the scores.
Lisbon’s goalie Devon Brewer earned the victory in net. Counterpart Betsy Noyes stopped 18 shots for the Cougars (1-9).
Brewer 3, Edward Little 2
AUBURN — Carly Seymour scored a pair of goals in the second half to rally Brewer to a 3-2 field hockey victory over Edward Little in a KVAC matchup Friday.
Goals by Jordan Tate and Maggie Williamson gave the Red Eddies (4-5-1) a 2-1 advantage at the half.
After tying the game early in the second half, Seymour scored the game-winner with 4:32 left to play. EL had a couple of late scoring chances, but could not score the tying goal.
Tori Couture and Taylor Berube assisted on the EL goals.
EL had the advantage in shots, 17-12, and a significant edge in penalty corners, 13-4.
Amanda Williams recorded eight saves for the Eddies, while Casey White made 14 stops for Brewer (8-1).
Spruce Mountain 5, Boothbay 2
JAY — Kathryn Ventrella scored a pair of goals to lift Spruce Mountain to a 5-2
triumph over Boothbay in an MVC field hockey game Friday.
The Phoenix led 3-1 at halftime.
Rachel Calden added a goal and an assist. Also scoring for the Phoenix were Jahna Couture and Kayla Meserve.
Sarah Caron and Alex Clark scored for Boothbay.
