SALEM — Ian James scored the game’s only goal to lift Mt. Abram to a 1-0 victory over Monmouth in an MVC boys’ soccer game Thursday.

James’ goal was set up by Alex Larochelle. James dribbled past a defender and booted the ball into the net from inside the box.

Mt. Abram outshot the Mustangs (5-5), 18-7. Monmouth goalie Casey Smith made 17 saves, while Josh Beedy made seven saves for the Roadrunners (3-4-3).

Wiscasset 5, Spruce Mountain 1

WISCASSET — Caleb Bryant scored three goals to lead Wiscasset to a 5-1 triumph over Spruce Mountain on Thursday.

All six goals were scored in the first half.

Jake Freeman scored the only goal for the Phoenix, knocking the ball into the cage after it deflected off the goalie’s hands.

Tyler Gervais made seven saves in net for the Phoenix. Jason Weatherbie had one save for Wiscasset (5-3-2).

Cape Elizabeth 3, Poland 0

CAPE ELIZABETH — James Barlow scored a pair of goals and Cape Elizabeth peppered Poland with 42 shots to emerge with a 3-0 victory.

Macklin Sweeney scored what proved to be the game-winner for the Capers (6-3-2) with 23:55 left in the first half.

Barlow added his first marker with 7:32 left in the first half, then found the back of the net again early in the second half.

Bret Parker made three stops in net for Cape Elizabeth. Dillon Douglas made 17 saves for the Knights (2-8).

Girls’ soccer

Cape Elizabeth 4, Poland 1

POLAND — Cape Elizabeth jumped out to a 3-0 advantage in the first frame and added one more for good measure to come away with a 4-1 triumph over Poland in WMC girls’ soccer action.

Melanie Vangel and Talley Perkins scored two goals each for the Capers (8-0-2) in a two-athlete attack. Ali Johnson made four saves to notch the win.

The Knights (3-9) received their lone goal from Emily Bolduc with an assist from Emma Turton.

Hayley Wentworth was super-busy in the cage, making 22 saves in the contest.
