AUGUSTA — The Telstar boys ended Boothbay’s three-year reign and the Monmouth girls reclaimed their title from St. Dom’s at Saturday’s Mountain Valley Conference cross country championships on the University of Maine at Augusta course.
Telstar used top-10 finishes by Josef Holt-Andrews (third), Ben Lewis (fifth) and Adam Mahar (eighth) to carve out a comfortable 45-65 victory over Boothbay.
Winthrop was third with 69 points.
On the girls’ side, Monmouth (73) defeated Lisbon (85), which prevailed in a wild battle for second over St. Dom’s (86) and Boothbay (87).
Matt McClintock of Madison won the boys’ race in a time of 16 minutes, 23 seconds, more than a half-minute ahead of Boothbay’s Chase Brown (16:56).
Holt-Andrews followed in 17:15. Lewis (18:14), Mahar (18:45), Bronson Dean (19:22) and Matthew Keane (19:40) also scored for the Rebels.
Kameron Souza (fourth, 18:07), Marc Hachey (sixth, 18:30) and Dylan Berney (10th, 18:57) led the charge for Winthrop.
Monmouth took the girls’ title despite not placing an individual runner among the top seven.
Tiffany Pease topped the Mustangs in eighth at 23:17. India Pickett, Jordyn Mann and Becki Bryant claimed key spots in the pack, and Emily Szotkowki’s 28th-place finish sealed it for the Mustangs.
Meagan Thomas of Lisbon won the individual gold with a time of 21:33.
The top six finishers represented six different schools. Following Thomas were Sophia Thayer of Boothbay, Natalie Bolduc of Dirigo, Bronte Elias of Madison, Emma Wilson of Hall-Dale and Gabi Stone of Telstar.
Lisbon was the first team to show up twice in the rundown. Angie Bulgin wound up seventh for the Greyhounds.
Ellen Tuttle (11th) was the top finisher for defending champion St. Dom’s.
